Greenwich: Toddler injured after being attacked by dog thought to be Bully XL

A dog has been seized after a toddler was injured in a dog attack in Greenwich.
Police were called at 10.10am on Monday morning to reports that a 20-month-old child had been bitten by a dog in Catherine Grove.

Hide AdOfficers attended along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.
The child was taken to hospital where his injuries were assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.
A man, aged 30, has been charged with allowing a dog to be dangerously out of control.
He is due to appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday October 3.

Hide AdA Met Police spokesperson said: “The boy’s injuries have been treated at hospital.
“They are not life changing or threatening, fortunately. We wish the victim all the best with his recovery and thoughts with his family.”
The dog was reported to be a Bully XL, however further tests are required to confirm this.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak recently announced that XL bullies would be added to the UK’s list of prohibited breeds by the end of the year, following a series of attacks by the “dangerous” dogs

Hide AdOwners of American XL bullies will not face a cull of their pets, but Downing Street said measures would be put in place to cover the “existing population” of the dogs. The ban is expected to come into place by the end of the year.
It is unclear as of yet what will happen to XL bully dogs when they are banned, with a Number 10 spokesperson saying “the details still need to be worked out.”
