London mayoral election 2024: How many candidates can people name and what are the big issues?

The London mayoral election takes place this week, on Thursday May 2.

Londoners will be heading to the polling stations, with photo IDs ready, to cast their vote for one of 13 mayoral candidates, as well as those vying for places on the London Assembly.

But how many candidates can people actually name? Is the election important? And what are the key issues that need to be addressed?

Ian told us: "Do you know - I can only actually name that Sadiq Khan is standing.

"I think [the election] is important. I was talking to a friend of mine the other day and he was saying that he was going for an independent candidate because he's worried about the crime rate. 

"To be honest, I haven't looked much further because I'm going to vote for Sadiq. Maybe I should have looked into the others as well, but I just felt that that's who I would vote for."

Construction worker Alfie said the Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ) is a big issue for a lot of people.

"It's difficult for a lot of builders," he said. "I do labouring stuff and it's a lot of money to get your tools up and down. Transport just doesn't do it.

"It is a big issue. It's killing a lot of trade and costing a lot of money just to get into their workplaces."

He said it costs a lot to get a new van and lot of people can't afford it.

Bartender Robin said: "When I came to London, in my head it was a clean city. It is clean - but not everywhere."
