Arsenal exit likely as ‘fresh attempt’ to secure transfer planned

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka remains a transfer target for Serie A giants Roma, according to reports.
The Swiss international was reportedly targeted by I Giallorossi manager Jose Mourinho during the summer but failed to agree a fee with the Gunners.

Hide AdThe 29-year-old has gone on to make 13 appearances in all competitions for Mikel Arteta’s side, but has seen his campaign disrupted by a knee ligament injury he suffered in a 3-1 win against North London rivals Spurs in November.
Despite that injury and concerns over Xhaka’s discipline, Roma boss Mourinho is still keen to take the midfielder to Serie A and described him as Arsenal’s key midfielder three years ago.
Xhaka responded to the praise saying: “To be honest, I didn’t hear what Mourinho has said about me. But that makes you proud.
“Everyone knows Mourinho, knows what he has achieved.
“Mourinho knows how to win titles. You can now see what work I have done over the past few years.”

Hide AdXhaka has two years remaining on the contract extension he signed in August last year after Roma’s initial interest was dismissed.
However, it seems likely Mourinho will make another attempt to secure the signing of a long-term target at the end of the season.
