According to a report on Goal.com, Chelsea will take on Brighton in the opening game of the competition at the Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. Games against Fulham and Brentford will follow in other cities.

The tournaments will be held from the 22nd of july to the 30th at venues including Atlanta, GA, Harrison, NJ, Orlando, FL, Philadelphia, PA and Landover, MD.

The Premier League is expected to announce the summer tournament which sources say is meant to popularise the English game further across all continents.

LondonWorld’s sources add that the inspiration behind the idea came from the success of the NBA and NFL hosting matches in London and Paris with Chelsea owners particularly interested in having pre-season games in the states.

Chelsea struggles in the league

This season has been a challenging one for the Blues and their new owners who took over the club last May from Russian Roman Abramovich. Their first managerial appointment was Graham Potter who lasted just seven months, despite signings five-yeardeal at the club.

Club legend Frank Lampard has since taken over from Potter until the end of the season but it remains to be seen who they settle on for the next campaign.
