The Gunners dropped points after West Ham came back to draw 2-2 with Mikel Arteta’s side at London Stadium.

Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has spoken out in defence of Bukayo Saka after the England star missed a penalty in the Gunners’ 2-2 draw against West Ham.

Saka struck his spot kick wide when the score was at 2-1 after Michail Antonio's handball, before Jarrod Bowen equalised after volleying a pass from Thilo Kehrer past Aaron Ramsdale.

“We started to do a lot of stupid things on the ball, we allowed them to play on the long balls,” Odegaard said, reflecting on the team’s performance.

“But these things happen, and we win and lose together. Bukayo has been brilliant all season and been clinical from the spot. But today was not the day for him.”

Odegaard’s words echo those of Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who has been quick to defend Saka and his performances this season.

The young forward has been a standout player for the Gunners, with his energy, creativity, and clinical finishing making him a key part of the team’s attacking threat.

Despite the disappointment of the defeat, Odegaard remained positive about Arsenal’s chances in the league, emphasising that the team was still in a strong position to challenge for the title.

“We have to remember we are still top of the league with everything in our own hands,” he said. “The same mindset, same mentality to make sure we win the next one.”
