‘Disorder’: Four police officers injured and 12 arrests after West Ham vs Anderlecht

West Ham produced a professional performance to beat Anderlecht 2-1, but there was chaos in the stands for most of the game.
First-half goals from Said Benrahma and Bowen were enough to make it four wins from four in Group B despite Sebastiano Esposito’s late penalty for the visitors.

Chaos in the stands
Four police officers were badly injured and are now receiving treatment this morning after fans tore up seats and threw flares and missiles during the game, mostly from the away end.
The agitation was mostly seen from the away end as West Ham won the game against their Belgian side opponents.
David Moyes’ side have now secured progression to the next round of the Europa Conference league with games to spare.

Hide AdOne of the officers suffered a broken wrist and received first aid treatment before being helped to the hospital while two others needed stitches on their head after some of the missiles landed on their heads.
Two more police officers were at the receiving end of seats being pelted at them, with others suffering bad knocks and needed medical treatment.
A statement from the Met Police said: “Four officers were injured, two requiring hospital treatment, after disorder at the London Stadium during the match between West Ham and Anderlecht.
“One of the officers has a suspected broken wrist and the second received stitches for a head injury. The two other officers were struck on the head during the disorder.

Hide Ad“Chairs and flares were thrown from within the away section and officers had to intervene in protective equipment to restore calm.
“One man was arrested for the assault on the officer who suffered a suspected broken wrist. 12 people were arrested for other offences unrelated to the assaults on officers.”
