At a trial at Inner London Crown Court which concluded on March 9, three men, Yusuf Murat Aydin, 22 of Eltham Green Road, Jack Davies, 20, of Westhorne Avenue, and Benedict Paul, 18, of Ellis Close, were found guilty of manslaughter.

A 17-year-old boy, who can’t be named for legal reasons, also appeared, and was found guilty of Mr Wyrzkowski’s murder.

The four were sentenced at the same court on April 12, with the teenager jailed for 17 years, Aydin 12 years, Davies 11 years, and Pail nine years.

Det Ch Insp Kate Kieran, who led the investigation, said: “This was an intentional attack, it was brutal and afterwards all four defendants took steps to avoid being arrested. They must now all spend time behind bars as a result of their actions.

“This sentencing will undoubtedly bring the raw emotions of Bartosz’s murder back to his friends and family; while his death will continue to have a devastating impact on them I can only hope that seeing those responsible jailed will afford them some sense of justice.”

The attack

On February 8 2022, Mr Wyrzkowski and his friend were shopping for food when, as they walked along Keynsham Road, CCTV footage shows a black coloured Seat Leon pulled up alongside them.

The car belonged to Yusuf Aydin, and had all four defendants inside.

Aydin got out and confronted Mr Wyrzkowski, with the others joining in. The group then moved down Lionel Road, near the junction of Westhorne Avenue, where Mr Wyrzkowski fell to the floor and was stabbed with a knife.

Mr Wyrzkowski was taken to hospital, where he died from a wound to the stomach that had severed a vein.

A second set of blood at the scene was identified as Aydin’s, as it appeared stab wounds he had recently been treated for in hospital had opened up during the attack.

The blood trail led to where the car the suspects fled in was parked, and the defendant’s mobile phones were later found to have travelled to an address linked to Davies.

Witnesses would later tell the Met Police that the 17-year-old, who was 16 at the time, had stabbed Mr Wyrzkowski.

Davies was arrested on February 10 2022 on suspicion of murder.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested on February 11 2022, travelling with luggage to London City Airport as he headed for Ghana.

Aydin was arrested on February 11 2022 and all three were charged with Bartosz’s murder.

Benedict Paul, who was aged 17 at the time of the murder, never returned home, but instead fled to Kent on the day of the murder. After the arrest and charge of his co-defendants, Paul handed himself in on February 16 2022, at Lewisham Police Station.
