In March he was found guilty of causing the death by dangerous driving of 59-year-old Kishore Kumar Gill, who was from west London, in Greenford Road, Greenford.

The court heard that Multani was over the alcohol limit at the time of the collision and was driving at a speed of at least 65mph in a 20mph zone.

In a statement, the Gill family said: “Kishore Kumar Gill had nine children and 13 grandchildren with one on the way. He was healthy and fit, a regular gym goer and loved his family.

“It’s heart-breaking that his life was struck down at just 59 years old, doing what he’d done hundreds of times, crossing a road to get to work.

“His youngest grandchildren will never know him. Nothing can ever replace what we’ve lost as a family but this outcome at court gives him justice and we can try to live on and honour his memory.”

Police were called at 5.35am on February 15 2022 to reports of Multani’s VW Polo car hitting Mr Gill on Greenford Road at the junction with Bingley Road, Greenford.

Despite the efforts of emergency services responding to the incident, Mr Gill was pronounced dead at the scene.

Multani did not initially stop, but came to a halt some distance along Greenford Road a short time later.

Detective Sergeant Nush Puvitharan, of the Met’s Roads and Transport Policing Command, said: “Kishore Kumar Gill was taken away from his family thanks to the recklessness of Tarnjeet Multani.

“I hope today’s sentencing brings Mr Gill’s family some measure of comfort as they continue to mourn his loss.

“Multani was brought to justice thanks to a tenacious investigation by officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit supported by Forensic Collision Investigation Unit colleagues. Their work in establishing what happened and the speed of Multani’s car was crucial.”
