We visited Sir Keir Starmer’s constituency Kentish Town to see what locals really think of the Labour leader.

The general election is just a month away with the country left with the choice between Rishi Sunak or Sir Keir Starmer to be Prime Minister for the next four years.

Mr Sunak says Conservatives will deliver a “clear plan, bold action and a secure future for the UK", while Sir Keir has promised that Labour will “get Britain’s future back”.

Sir Keir, a former lawyer, was elected as a member of Parliament in 2015 serving as an MP for Holborn and St Pancras.

After Jeremy Corbyn resigned following Labour's 2019 general election defeat, Starmer won the party's 2020 leadership election.

Sir Keir promises to deliver change for the UK if Labour wins on July 4.

Sir Keir and his wife Victoria have lived in Kentish Town, a fashionable part of north London since they married in 2007.

We asked locals what they think of the Labour leader.

Jenny, 62, who has lived in Camden her whole life, thinks he lacks charisma and purpose.

“I’m not sure he’s the best leader for the Labour Party. He sort of lacks a sense of charisma and purpose. I’m still not sure what he stands for,” she said.

“His policies for me are a bit flat. When I was reflecting last night, my biggest concern really is about the Hamas/ Israeli conflict. I’d like a much stronger stance on that from the Labour party.

“It's supposed to be the party of the people and they really need to come out and make a clear statement on what’s happening, without taking sides for the sake of humanity I think”.

Local resident Phil thinks Sir Keir is a bit too far “to the right” for his liking.

“I’m more into redistribution and stuff like that. He’s coming across as being a bit wishy washy,” he said.

“I know he has to be cautious but he’s taken that caution a bit too far. He needs to give people more of a reason to vote for him rather than just a reason not to vote for the other lot”.

Meanwhile James is a fan. “I think he’s alright. He’s okay, I’ll probably vote for him I recko,” he said.

“I’m not big on the Tories particularly. He’s got the best shot of winning. I like him, I think he’s alright”.

The country head to their local polling stations on July 4 to vote in the general election.
