A vintage Tube train which had been vandalised after its restoration to its original 1938 condition will be back on the tracks for an upcoming heritage event.

The London Transport Museum (LTM) had planned journeys along the Piccadilly line between Acton Town and Oakwood this month but they had to be cancelled due to the damage.

The trip scheduled for July 20 and 21 will go ahead as planned.

“Thanks to the hard work of our volunteers, curators, and London Underground, our beautiful 1938 Tube stock should run as scheduled on July 20 and 21,” a museum spokesperson said.

“We’ll be offering priority booking to ticket holders who missed out in June.”

Elizabeth McKay, from the museum, said she had been "devastated" by vandalism.

She added: "Our heritage Tube train operations are a wonderful way for the public to experience the history of the capital and the proceeds from ticket sales support our work as an education and heritage charity."
