Arsenal and Spurs are set to battle it out for an in-demand Dutch talent

With only four more days to go until the transfer window opens up, Arsenal have been linked with a move for Tottenham and Liverpool target Lutsharel Geertruida.

The 23-year-old Feyenoord star is hopeful of leaving the club this summer and the side is reportedly ready to negotiate a transfer in the coming weeks. Liverpool were immediately linked with a move for the defensive star once Arne Slot’s imminent arrival at Anfield was confirmed.

45-year-old Slot recently departed the Eredivisie side and subsequently knows the 23-year-old Geetruida well but the Reds are now not the only club reported to be interested in the Dutch international.

According to De Telegraaf, via Sportwitness, Arsenal and now set to battle their north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur as well as Liverpool for the player who is set to be leaving Feyenoord partly due to his contract situation. Geertruida’s current deal will expire next summer, which means the Eredivisie side are under increasing pressure not to lose out on a financial gain.

Back in December, Bayern Munich were linked with a move for the rising Dutch star with Feyenoord indicating they would not let their star go for less than €30 million (£25.3m). There is little to suggest this figure has changed much but if the three Premier League clubs are interested in Geertruida, the Eredivisie club will hope a bidding war could ensure to drum up his sale.

Born in Rotterdam, Geertruida has been with Feyenoord since 2012, joining the senior side officially in 2017. He has since made over 140 league appearances for the Dutch outfit and is known for his versatility on the pitch. Not only can the 23-year-old play both defensive flanks as well as centre-back, but he also has experience in central midfield and could potentially team up well with Declan Rice at the Emirates Stadium with Thomas Partey expected to depart in the next few weeks.

Having represented the Netherlands at all youth levels, Geertruida made his senior debut in 2023 during the UEFA Nations League Finals and is now expected to play a huge role for the side in the upcoming European Championships in Germany.
