High praise for Brentford star

Speaking on talkSPORT, pundit Simon Jordan believes Brentford ace Ivan Toney deserves an England call-up.

The striker scored a hat-trick over the weekend to help his side beat Leeds United 5-2.

Toney, 26, has been a key player for the Bees since joining them in 2020 and they did well to keep hold of him in the past January transfer window.

He has scored 52 goals in 96 appearances for the London club in all competitions to date.

‘Outstanding player’...

Jordan has said:

“He is an outstanding player. He came into the Premier League with a reputation of being of a difficult player to play against because he is unorthodox.

“Forget unorthodox, he is a high quality player that not only scores goals, but makes goals, he works hard.”

“He is an absolute credit to himself, to his football team and his manager. First of all, he’s probably the best penalty taker in the division by a country mile.

“He put them in the Premier League with a penalty ironically and has since scored many, many penalties. He never looks like he is going to miss.

“The quality of the goals he scored on Saturday were as good as you will see anywhere. I mean what a free-kick, and the third goal - absolute composure. What a player and he should be in the mix (for the England squad).”

Toney joined Brentford back in 2020 from Peterborough United and fired 33 goals in all competitions during his first year at the club to get them into the Premier League.

He then scored 14 last term for Thomas Frank’s side and will be looking to beat that in this campaign.

The Bees have started this season strongly and are sat in 8th position.

Next up for them is a trip to Southampton away on Saturday and Toney will be eager to add to his tally.
