Chelsea have gone out and splashed the cash on one of the best players from the Championship last season.

Chelsea have backed newly appointed manager Enzo Maresca with the signing of Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for a reported fee of £30 million. The 25-year-old is expected to complete a medical in the coming days before the club announces his signing.

Last season, Maresca and Dewsbury-Hall enjoyed a brilliant campaign together as Leicester bounced back to the Premier League at the first time of asking. Dewsbury-Hall scored 12 goals and assisted 14 in a dominant campaign and will now be tasked with reproducing that form at Stamford Bridge as they chase a return to their glory days after struggling in the last two seasons.

Dewsbury-Hall has been at Leicester since the age of eight and is seen as a midfielder who can excel at the highest level. With Chelsea looking to introduce an attacking brand of football, the midfielder fits ideally into their plans. He was selected in the 2023/24 Championship Team of the Season and was named the Foxes' Supporters' and Players' Player of the Season.

New Chelsea boss to begin work on Monday

This is the best possible news for manager Maresca, who is set to begin his Chelsea role on Monday, July 1st. He will be reunited with a player he enjoyed working with.

The purchase, however, raises questions about the long-term future of players like Conor Gallagher, who has been consistently linked with an exit, as well as Carney Chukwuemeka, who was signed to develop and be a long-term success at the club.

Chelsea have already confirmed the signing of Tosin Adarabioyo, who turned down a chance to renew his contract at Fulham, as well as youngsters Estevão Willian and Omari Kellyman.
