Mason Mount’s future at Chelsea has come increasing scrutiny in recent months after a stall in contract talks

Frank Lampard has said he and Mason Mount “will talk a lot” in his first press conference since being appointed as interim Chelsea boss.

Mount has missed recent games due to injury while reports are talks over a new deal for the England midfielder have stalled. He enters the final year of his contact next season with further reports Chelsea could look to sell the player this summer.

Liverpool are reportedly interested in the player but Lampard wants to Mount back to his best on the pitch, with the player having enjoyed some fine form during Lampard’s last stint in charge at Stamford Bridge.

“The top clubs have big squads. You have to make every player feel included. Being here in the short term is a positive because everyone can have a clean slate. They players will push each other and I will try and manage that,” said Lampard ahead of Chelsea’s trip to Wolves.

“In terms of goalscoring, you can work to get your team into a dominant area on the pitch. I’ll work with the players on the training ground. Scoring goals was a big part of my game.”

On Mason Mount he added: “I know he’s had a few slight injury problems, as I understand. I know what I get from Mason, I just want to see him perform on the pitch. We have a good relationship so we’ll talk a lot.

“We want to win as many games as we can. There are big games ahead of us. We have to have a belief in the players and I have huge belief in them. We have to take that in the right direction and win games.”
