Chelsea star told he might not play for England again at the Euros after poor showing

England have struggled despite topping their group and getting a favourable round of 16 draw.

Former Liverpool star Didi Hamann has warned that Conor Gallagher might never play again in the Euros after being substituted at halftime against Slovenia in the final group game of the tournament for the Three Lions.

The Chelsea star had come off the bench in the first two games and gave a good account of himself. These impressive second-half performances led to a start in midfield ahead of Trent Alexander-Arnold, but things did not go well, with Gallagher being substituted at halftime for Kobbie Mainoo.

Ex-Liverpool, Bayern Munich, and Germany midfielder Hamann, who admits Gallagher is not the problem for England, suspects he might be made a scapegoat and will not play again in this tournament.

He told RTE: “I think he’s got to take one of them out or move Bellingham a bit further back, but he doesn’t want to do this because, for some reason, he thinks Bellingham has to play in a position behind Kane.

“If he drops one of the two, that gives him a chance to bring Palmer in, bring Gordon in, bring Eze in, whoever. You’ve got so many players. Jarrod Bowen came on last week and set up the chance for Kane and he doesn’t do it.

“Gallagher isn’t or wasn’t a problem. He’s not the problem of that England team. It’s probably too late now. If you go after the lesser players, it doesn’t look good on the manager, and that’s what he’s done in the tournament.

“He’s taken Alexander-Arnold; he’s an easy target. Gallagher comes off at halftime. We probably don’t see Gallagher again for the rest of the tournament.”

England will hope to grow in the tournament and at least reach the semi-final, where Switzerland or holders Italy await them. If they meet Italy, it will be a chance to make up for the penalty defeat to the Azzurri in the last edition's final.
