Two plays that will be key to his success are Levi Colwill and Noni Madueke who will both be playing in the European under-21 championship currently ongoing.

Pochettino admitted he took notice of Madueke when he was Tottenham's manager and has already made contact with the pair ahead of the final against Spain.

he told reporters: “We spoke yesterday with Levi and Noni. One I know, Noni with Tottenham and Levi I don't know but introduced myself and wished them the best. Spain vs England. I wish them the best and we are waiting for them to be with the team. I think they will join us in America.”

Chelsea have sold as many as six first-team players already including the hardworking Mateo Kovacic, Champions League-winning goalkeeper Edouard Mendy and Mason Mount.

Kalidou Kolibaly has also left as well as N’Golo Kante who was close to agreeing on a new deal before an offer from Al-Ittihad was too good to turn down by both club and player.

Pochettino will also have to decide who his next captain will be after César Azpilicueta left the club after 11 years.

He added: “First of all we need to build the squad and then I need to look at all the players before making a decision.

“I need to feel the players, feel the commitment, the character, the personality.”
