'Why no': Striker Chelsea signed for £10m wants to return to Stamford Bridge and force his way into the squad

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino is likely to take a second look at on-loan players ahead of next season.

Chelsea striker David Fofana on loan at Burnley says he’s looking forward to returning to west London for pre-season ahead of the 2024/2025 Premier League season.

The Ivory Coast striker enjoyed a decent campaign for the Clarets, scoring four league goals in 15 appearances, but Vincent Kompany’s side were ultimately relegated over the weekend after a 2-1 defeat to Tottenham.

Fofana admits he’s now looking to force his way back into Mauricio Pochettino’s thinking in pre-season especially having seen his friend Nicolas Jackson impress after being given an opportunity by the Argentinian manager who is an expert in getting the best out of young players.

He told Capital Football: “I think I'll go back and why not do the pre-season with Chelsea? In January, I wanted to stay but some things happened. “I have nothing to envy Nico Jackson, who is also my friend”

Chelsea need a win at Brighton tomorrow night

Chelsea look to have turned a corner recently winning three straight games and generally having improved performances. They have a decent chance of finishing sixth and securing Europa League football but they will need to pick three points from the Amex on Wednesday night and hope Newcastle drop points.

In a season that has been incredibly challenging due to injuries, more than 55 suffered across the squad, the most by any team in the league, Pochettino’s side reached the final of the League Cup, the semi-final of the FA Cup and could still bring back European football to Stamford Bridge next season.

The owners will assess all that at the end of the campaign as originally planned to measure progress in a project that has seen them spend almost £1billion in the last two transfer windows.
