The staggering amount Kieran McKenna has been offered to reject Chelsea and Brighton interest

The highly-rated Northern Ireland coach is a man in demand with both Chelsea and Brighton interested in him.

Ipswich are offering Kieran McKenna a chance to quadruple his £1.2million a year contract and reject the advances from Chelsea and Brighton. The 38-year-old manager has shot to stardom after masterminding back-to-back promotions and leading The Tractor Boys to the Premier League for the first time in 28 years.

They are desperate to keep hold of their prized asset and have offered a £5million-a-year deal, LondonWorld has been told. McKenna is one of the highest-paid managers already in the Championship but his newfound form has meant he is likely to command a mighty pay cheque that has forced the Suffolk club to throw more money at him.

The 38-year-old fits the bill of what Chelsea are looking for in a young, modern manager who can grow with the talented group of players they have at the club. Chelsea parted way with Mauricio Pochettino despite the Argentinian putting together a run of five wins in their last five games to see them secure European football for the first time under Clearlake ownership.

McKenna has been keen to not rule himself out of any job but has been intelligent enough to credit his players and his club for the success of the last few years. He said on Wednesday when asked about growing interest in him:  “Again, when you do well – as a manager or as a player – there’s always going to be speculation.

“I know what we’ve achieved isn’t a normal thing so there’s always going to be speculation. But that’s not where my focus is… tonight is about what we’ve achieved over the last couple of seasons.

“It’s been a wonderful couple of years so tonight is about celebrating that. I know everyone is looking forward to next season and I know the club is going to be in a really good place going into that season.”
