Crystal Palace dominate but fail to take all points again at Selhurst.

On an eventful day for Christian Benteke, he scored a brilliant header but missed three glorious chances before a magnificent overhead kick from Callum Wilson rescued a point for Newcastle at Selhurst.

Crystal Palace were the dominant side most of the game but failed to take their chances and that came back to haunt them.

Benteke thought he had won it late on but VAR intervened for a foul against defender Marc Guehi.

Patrick Vieira side have now drawn six games and are 15th on the league table, five points above Newcastle who can’t wait for January to bring in fresh blood to help their season.

Here is what the manager said and  five things we learnt from the game in South London.

What Vieira said after the game

Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira said: “ I’m frustrated because we did enough to take all three points and we were unlucky to to concede the goal.

“We need to improve too especially with goal scoring because I think we had enough chances to scored more than just the one goal.”

Bouncing Selhurst

Vieira’s high pressing philosophy has got fans excited and games are more like a carnival these days at Selhurst.

Against Newcastle the Holmesdale was bouncing and urging the players on from the first minute till the last kick of the game.

Roy Hodgson did an amazing job by keeping this team afloat but Vieira’s job has been to add excitement and bring on board an attractive brand of football  that will  improve the match day experience and, so far, the fans seem to be enjoying every minute of it even if the draws are frustrating.

Michael Olise will get more opportunities to impress

Michael Olise got his first Premier league start of the season after impressing off the bench in the last few games.

He made a bright start and kept stretching the Newcastle’s back line in the first half  to the delight of the home fans who had been itching to see him get a start.

His runs were well timed and even if his final ball didn’t quite match his efforts he was always creating avenues and making moves to help his team.

The imminent return of Eze to the team might limit his game time but he has shown he can make a difference at this level.

Crystal Palace will struggle to keep Conor Gallagher

If Conor Gallagher keeps performing like he did against Newcastle, he’ll price himself out of Palace being able to afford him.

His energy and drive has been key to the success Vieira has chopped so far and  Chelsea will be watching every single move he makes.

There is already a growing belief that Palace will begin talks to make his move permanent but Chelsea will have a big say in where he ends up.

Crystal Palace will try to keep him but there will be a host of other clubs  looking to offer him opportunities.

Chairman Steve Parish is loved at Palace

Steve Parish should be commended for his brave decision to steer this club into another direction after finding stability with Roy Hodgson.

He is a man who dreams of making Crystal Palace the hot bed for talents in South London.

He attempted this project with Frank de Boer and it’s very refreshing to see that he hasn’t given up hope of making this club attractive on and off the pitch.

When he arrived at Selhurst today, his car was surrounded by a sea of Palace fans and it took security to get him to his seat, a very popular man.

Drama at the end again for Palace

Benteke thought he had got the winner for Palace late on when he rose  to meet a  Zaha  cross but VAR intervened, with replays showing Marc Guehi pulling Ciaran Clark’s shirt.

This is another game where Patrick Vieira’s side have picked up a point but they leave feeling deflated.

Six draws, two defeats and just that win against Tottenham means they have nine points from their first nine games of the season. They have to start picking up points real quick.
