The news comes after Millwall announced three internal departures last week. Chief Executive Steve Kavanagh, Director of Football Operations and Recruitment Alex Aldridge and Chief Operating Officer Billy Taylor all left the club.

“I have no doubt Mark will drive the club further forward both on and off the pitch in this new chapter.”

Sheffield United prepare £8m bid for Sunderland talent

Sheffield United are believed to have made Sunderland goalkeeper Anthony Patterson a 'first choice' transfer target this summer as the Blades prepare for a return to the Championship.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper is highly rated and has enjoyed an impressive season in the North East. The academy graduate has been linked with moves to Celtic, Liverpool and Arsenal in recent months according to the Sunderland Echo.

Sheffield United now join that race and are believed to be readying an £8 million bid for the goalkeeper - however, the Black Cats value their homegrown talent at somewhere between £10 and £15 million.
