There have been developments in two midfielders previously linked with a summer move to Loftus Road.

QPR have been handed a significant boost in the pursuit of Newcastle United star Isaac Hayden this summer with an update from the North East regarding the player's future.

The Shields Gazette reports that even though the Premier League star has two years left on his lengthy Magpies contract, the club will look to negotiate his early release to lighten the load on their wage books.

The 29-year-old hasn't played for Newcastle United since 2021 and is not part of Eddie Howe's plans at St James' Park. He spent the back end of last season on loan at QPR and enjoyed a successful spell under Marti Cifuentes as the side avoided relegation.

Hayden made 17 Championship appearances and it is widely believed that QPR would be interested in making that loan move permanent this summer. The midfielder looks set to be available on a free transfer according to the report, with the Premier League side hoping to agree a financial settlement to end his contract early.

Speaking about his future towards the end of the Championship campaign, Hayden said: "Things move quickly in football and you move on. But it's a situation where myself and the club will have to sit down in the summer and discuss what they want to do.

"I had to take a pay cut to go to QPR, which I was happy to do for the last few months of the season, to get games. But it’ll be back to square one in the summer but hopefully I can help keep QPR up and would love to stay here if possible."

Meanwhile, there is also renewed interest in transfer interest in reports linking QPR with young PSG talent Ethan Mbappe. Le Parisien had reported that the Championship club were looking at the younger brother of Kylian Mbappe but the 17-year-old had then appeared to be on the verge of joining Lille.

Le 10 Sport now claims that deal is off the cards, which could have caught the attention of other interested outfits. Borussia Dortmund and Ajax had also been named as clubs looking at the PSG academy graduate.
