Tottenham picked up a big point at Anfield on Saturday afternoon, and they also earned praise aplenty from Match of the Day pundit Alan Shearer.

Alan Shearer has waxed lyrical over Tottenham’s efforts against Liverpool on Saturday evening.

Antonio Conte’s men picked up a big result at Anfield thanks to a spirited performance, and they were unlucky not to hold on for a win.

Spurs took the lead through Son Heung-min and were very unfortunate to see a long-range Luis Diaz shot deflect into the bottom corner.

Even with the equaliser, Conte’s men have to be delighted with picking up a point on the road against Liverpool, and they keep the pressure on Arsenal, who might have expected their north London rivals to slip-up in Merseyside.

On the back of the result, Tottenham received praise aplenty on Match of the Day, and from Shearer, in particular.

“They had a game plan and it worked defensively, also hitting them on the break,” said the former Newcastle United striker.

“Liverpool had 22 shots but only three were on target because every single time, those Spurs players knew what they were doing, and they were so good at it, to a man.”

He added: “When they had to defend, it was 5-4-1 and even Kane was dropping deep. You could see Liverpool were getting frustrated.

“There was just no way through. Balls were coming into the box and Tottenham were getting to it. They were crunching into tackles and they were putting their bodies on the line to get to it first.

“It was brilliant from their point of view, and it really frustrated Liverpool.”

The draw means Arsenal can move four points clear with a win over Leeds United on Sunday, though the Gunners still have some tricky fixture remaining.

Arsenal must still face Tottenham, Newcastle and Everton before the season ends, while Spurs face their north London rivals, as well as Burnley and Norwich City.
