Tottenham have dropped the biggest hint that they’re creating space in their wage bill with the latest announcement.

Tottenham have announced that Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Japhet Tanganga and Ryan Sessegnon have all departed the club at the end of their contracts.

Dier left the club in the winter for Bayern Munich where he helped the club reach the semi-final of the Champions League while the well-travelled Perisic joined Hajduk Split. Both have now left the club permanently.

Tanganga, who recovered from a difficult first part of last season to excel at Championship side Millwall, has also left the club as well as Sessegnon who has endured a tough spell in north London.

Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou had vowed to ‘restore the foundations’ of the club after their defeat to Manchester City where he hinted that some players and staff just did not have the right mindset ahead of the game.

He said: “No, I think the last 48 hours have revealed to me that the foundations are fairly fragile mate.

"That's just what I think. I just think the last 48 hours have revealed a fair bit to me. That's alright. It just means I've got to go back to the drawing board with some things.

Asked whether his frustration was at the fans who seemed to be celebrating the fact that City, not Arsenal, are now title favourites, Postecoglou left his audience guessing on that day.

"Outside (the club), inside, everywhere. It's been an interesting exercise. You can make your own assessments of what's happened. I understand. I probably misread the situation as to what I think is important in your endeavour to become a winning team, but that's ok. That's why I'm here."

Tottenham statement:

A Spurs statement read: “We can confirm the departures of Eric Dier, Ivan Perisic, Ryan Sessegnon and Japhet Tanganga following the conclusion of their contracts.

“We said farewell to both Eric and Ivan in January as they headed off to join their new clubs, initially on loan.

“Defender Eric joined Bayern Munich, having made 365 appearances and scored 13 goals in nine-and-a-half years with us, while left winger Ivan linked up with HNK Hajduk Split, having appeared 50 times in our colours, scoring once, following his arrival in 2022. Both of their contracts with us have now come to an end.”
