Sky Sports confirm target date for Tottenham to announce Roberto De Zerbi as new manager
Roberto De Zerbi and Tottenham Hotspur are expected to ‘accelerate’ contract talks today.
Tottenham Hotspur are expected to work quickly to appoint former Brighton and Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi in North London this week.

Spurs are once again on the lookout for a new head coach, having parted ways with interim boss Igor Tudor following the 3-0 defeat to Nottingham Forest prior to the international break.
De Zerbi is available to work having left his post in Marseille earlier this season and had been linked with the job at Tottenham. Over the weekend, the BBC reported that the 46-year-old’s preference would be to wait until the end of the season to see whether Spurs avoid the drop.
However, on Monday morning, Sky Sports reported that talks are now underway between Tottenham and De Zerbi over an immediate appointment with a five-year contract on the table. It’s added that the talks are ‘expected’ to accelerate on Monday with a new head coach expected to be announced on ‘Tuesday or Wednesday’.
De Zerbi will then have a week and a half to work with players following the international break and prior to the visit to Sunderland on Sunday, April 12. Spurs sit 17th in the division and just one point above the drop zone.
The permanent appointment would end links with a return for Mauricio Pochettino in the summer. The former Spurs boss is loved by fans but is currently working with the United States national side ahead of the World Cup.
Tim Sherwood delivers promising Roberto De Zerbi to Spurs verdict
Reacting to the links on Sky Sports, former Spurs boss Tim Sherwood said: “Mauricio, the first time around, had some very good players. Now he hasn’t, hence why the results aren’t very good. A manager hasn’t got a magic wand. Mauricio would go in there with his organisational skills and ability of getting the best out of players, but he’s going to need the players. They have to get the hierarchy and recruitment correct.
“First things first, let’s stay in the Premier League. I do not think De Zerbi is their number one choice. I don’t think they want to give De Zerbi the job if it was in the summer. I would, personally, I love his personality. He will demand off them. Constantly. I think that fans will like that, he will do his job on the pitch and work tirelessly. If he was the number one choice in the summer, when he left Marseille, they would have gone straight in and got him.”
