Watford are one of a handful of Championship and League One clubs to benefit from the clause.

Watford are one of several Championship and EFL clubs set to benefit financially from Euro 2024 thanks to a nifty clause around player participation.

All Championship clubs with players taking part in the international competition will receive compensation as a result. This is thanks to the UEFA club compensation scheme pot, which is worth a staggering £118 million.

The Club Benefits Programme isn't a new addition to Euro 2024 and a similar strategy has run at other major tournaments with FIFA using a similar scheme at the 2022 World Cup. Its benefits for this summer's tournament have been uncovered by BirminghamWorld.

UEFA had confirmed that there would be a €10 increase from the amount shared at Euro 2020, increasing from €130 to €140 million - equivalent to around £118 million. The fee breaks down to around £140,000 per player for the duration of the group stage, which will be coming Watford's way.

The Hornets have two first team players representing their countries at the tournament. Ryan Porteous is part of the Scotland squad and had a nightmare first appearance in the tournament as he saw red for a nasty challenge on Ilkay Gundogan.

Attacking midfielder Giorgi Chakvetadze is also at Euro 2024 and will represent his national side Georgia. The minnows kick off their campaign against Turkey in a Group F fixture on Thursday.

With two players involved, Watford are set to bag £280,000 from the scheme. Elsewhere in the Championship, Bristol City have three players involved in Euro 2024 - Andreas Weimann for Austria along with both Ross McCrorie and Tommy Conway for Scotland.

Norwich City will receive £420,000 with three players all representing Scotland in Angus Gunn, Grant Hanley and Kenny McLean. Leeds United will pocket some cash for Liam Cooper's involvement while West Brom, Luton Town, Sunderland and Burnley are represented by Okay Yokuşlu, Thomas Kaminski, Callum Styles and Zeki Amdouni respectively.
