The opening of IKEA’s highly anticipated Oxford Street store has been pushed back again.

IKEA have shared an update on when shoppers can expect their central London store on the famous Oxford Street to open.

The location which currently features a large installation of the retailer’s beloved blue shopping bags out front was initially set to open last autumn

However as the deadline came and passed without the opening the 214 Oxford Street stores doors, this was pushed back this autumn.

This year’s possible target has since been postponed once again as IKEA announced today (May 10) the store now hopes to open in the spring 2025.

When completed the IKEA Oxford Street will span across three floors, with a total area of 82,000 square feet. As part of the renovations some of the space’s dated plumbing, electricity and fire protection systems had to be replaced.

Following the confirmed new opening announcement, CEO and Chief Sustainability Officer, IKEA UK, Peter Jelkeby, said: “We've been overwhelmed by the interest and excitement generated around our Oxford Street opening.

“The historic nature of the building makes its careful renovation more complex, but we want to ensure Londoners that we're just as excited to open the store as they are to visit it. We look forward to doing so in spring 2025 and contributing to a positive future for London’s most renowned shopping district."
