Seven people have been taken to hospital by the London Ambulance Service due to smoke inhalation. A further three people were assessed on scene.

The fire was located in a 10-storey construction site, where a ground floor commercial unit caught light.

Video footage online shows thick black smoke billowing between high rise buildings.

“The fire produced a significant amount of smoke. People in the area were advised to keep windows and doors closed as crews responded,” a spokesperson said.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.

The A1011 Silvertown Way is closed between the A13 Canning Town Flyover and Hallsville Road as emergency services respond.
