Ian Maatsen's transfer from Chelsea to Aston Villa is now almost finalised after a medical was booked for him.

Chelsea and Aston Villa have agreed on a £37.5 million deal for Ian Maatsen to move from Stamford Bridge to Villa Park, LondonWorld can confirm. The left-back spent the second half of last season on loan at Dortmund, where he helped them reach the Champions League final and played the entire duration of the game at Wembley. They German side wanted to keep him but just could not meet Chelsea’s valuation.

Maatsen has always wanted to play regularly instead of being on the bench, which necessitated his loan move last season. He is now set to join Unai Emery’s Champions League side as they look to maintain their spot as a top-four team while competing in the Champions League.

For Chelsea, this is a brilliant opportunity to raise money for another signing, with the club already having the impressive Marc Cucurella and Ben Chilwell on their books. Chelsea have cover in the left-back area, and Maatsen will get the opportunity to compete for a starting place in a team going places instead of being left on the bench at Chelsea. Reports have confirmed a medical has been booked, as seen on the page of journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea looking to do business straight:

With the deal all but done, Chelsea are also in the final stages of sealing a deal for 19-year-old Villa youngster Omari Kellyman. But unlike other young signings, Kellyman is expected to stay at Chelsea and fight for a spot in the team instead of going out on loan.

Enzo Maresca’s side has also been linked with a move for Jhon Duran and Jonathan David, according to The Athletic. In the last two transfer windows, they have spent close to £1 billion on player transfers but are still desperate to strengthen the squad as they aim for a spot in the Champions League next season.
