Both London clubs, Tottenham and Chelsea, have been linked to Lille’s exciting striker.

Chelsea now look to make up for the loss of Michael Olise by signing Lille striker Jonathan David, according to The Athletic. LondonWorld reported last week that Spurs were leading the race for the striker, who found the back of the net 26 times in 47 appearances for Lille last season.

Chelsea are in the market for a striker to strengthen the team, with Armando Broja on his way out and talks that Romelu Lukaku, who spent last season out on loan at Roma, will be sold this summer. Currently, only Nicolas Jackson is considered an out-and-out striker under Enzo Maresca, even though Christopher Nkunku, now fit after an injury-ravaged first season in west London, can play that role.

Tottenham are also in the market for a striker, having failed to properly replace Harry Kane, who left for Bayern Munich last summer. David, who is young, quick, and lethal, is reported to be high on their list.

Chelsea enter the race:

According to The Athletic, the Blues have reportedly made contact with the 24-year-old's representatives, having placed him high on their wish list in the search for a forward.

David is set to enter the final year of his contract at the end of the month, and the Ligue 1 side are open to moving him on if they receive a "reasonable offer." Club president Oliver Letang previously stated that David would be allowed to leave this summer, with other Premier League sides as well as AC Milan linked with him.

David, who played 90 minutes in Canada's Copa América opener against Argentina on Friday, has scored 84 goals in 183 matches for Les Dogues. Chelsea finished one place below Tottenham, and both are looking to strengthen ahead of what should be a defining campaign after both missed out on Champions League football.
