England manager Gareth Southgate has a decision to make in the middle of the park.

Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher, who started the game against Slovenia, is now expected to be left on the bench when they take on Slovakia on Sunday. The Chelsea midfielder was substituted at halftime, with Bobbie Mainoo replacing him and producing an improved performance, even though England were ultimately held to a 0-0 draw.

Finding an adequate midfield partner for Declan Rice has been a problem for manager Gareth Southgate, who first gave Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold a start in the first two games before deciding he’d seen enough and gave the starting call to Conor Gallagher.

There have been calls for Southgate to change things up and start players like Cole Palmer and Mainoo. Former Arsenal striker Ian Wright has suggested Bukayo Saka should be played at left back to give the team balance, but the England boss has insisted on keeping largely the same team he started with.

Kieran Trippier, a right back who has been playing left back, is expected to be fit and keep his place despite the Saka option. According to a report on talkSPORT, Trippier has been battling a calf injury which forced him to train alone since Friday, but he’s now expected to be ready for the game tomorrow.

Chelsea's valuation of Gallagher

Gallagher’s future is expected to be decided after the Euros, with Chelsea determined to sell him but not willing to lower their £50 million valuation of the Englishman.

For large parts of last season, he was one of Chelsea's top players as they rallied from 11th to finish sixth and qualify for Europa Conference League football. The midfielder has also said that despite constantly being linked with an exit, he is only thinking about Chelsea and wants to continue with his boyhood club.
