The 'bizarre' reason Chelsea have dropped interest in 25-year-old striker who scored 17 goals last season

Chelsea are expected to announce their new manager by the close of next week before getting straight into the transfer business.

Chelsea have reportedly dropped all interest in Napoli and Nigeria striker Victor Osimhen because he’s 25 years old and just slightly older than the age range they’re looking at as a club this summer, LondonWorld has been told.

Osimhen has been a target for Chelsea since last summer and the expectation was that they would go all out for him this year, but club sources have said they have had a rethink lately and will go after young players as they look to slowly build a robust team that will compete for the league title in the coming days.

The club’s lead striker is Nicolas Jackson who is 22 years old, they also have forward Christopher Nkunku who is 26 years old. Armando Broja has returned to Cobham after a six-month loan at spell at Fulham but sources say he will be sold in the summer.

Speaking based on anonymity to protect relationship, a club source said: “It's bizarre they are not going for Osimhen again just because they say he is 25. We signed Nkunku last season when he was around that same age and Osimhen would have been a massive success for us. This team needs a proven goalscorer.”

Last season, Osimhen scored 17 goals in all competitions, two in the Champions League and 15 in the Serie A. He suffered a few setbacks as injuries meant he was just not able to produce the kind of mindblowing form he had when they won the league title the season before.

Chelsea need to benefit from Jackson

Last season, it was easy to see Jackson was raw but he progressed as the campaign travelled on and became comfortable in playing what is without a doubt the best league in the world. Chelsea are looking for a striker who will complement him without stagnating his progress.

They are looking for someone with more experience but who is happy with managed game time instead of someone who will come in and compete for minutes on the field.
