Newly promoted Championship side Derby County are set to profit massively from the Omari Kellyman deal.

Chelsea are closing in on a sensational deal to sign Aston Villa teenager Omari Kellyman, which is music to the ears of newly promoted Championship side Derby County. Villa and Chelsea have agreed to a deal worth £19 million for the 18-year-old, who, according to reports, will not be sent out on loan but rather given the chance to fight for a spot in manager Enzo Maresca’s team.

The move and fee are sensational given that Unai Emery’s side signed Kellyman from Derby for just £600,000 a couple of seasons ago. However, the Championship side reportedly inserted a sell-on clause that entitles them to a staggering 15% of the fee if he were to be sold. According to Daily Mail reporter Tom Collomosse, a quick calculation on the fee means the Rams will be boosted by £2,850,000 once the deal is complete.

Kellyman came up through the ranks at Pride Park before leaving for Villa in 2022, and this forward-thinking approach will help Derby plan for their return to the Championship in just over a month.

Chelsea agreed to sell Ian Maatsen to Villa in a deal worth £37 million after he impressed on loan at Dortmund, but the deal to bring Kellyman to Stamford Bridge is a separate one. Chelsea are set to lock the teenager into a six-year deal once he passes his medical later this week.

LondonWorld's Opinion on Chelsea’s Summer So Far

Chelsea appear to be becoming a hotbed for some of the best European and South American talents. This is already evident with the signing of players like Estevao Willian, who, despite being 17, will cost them around £52 million. The imminent addition of Kellyman will further enrich their base with exciting players like Noni Madueke, Cole Palmer, and Enzo Fernandez, all signed for long-term projects.

Last season, Chelsea missed out on Champions League football, but they are determined to at least secure that this season under Enzo Maresca.
