Why Brennan Johnson says Tottenham players 'owe' fans this season despite Burnley win

Tottenham returned to winning ways to relegate Burnley and keep their push for Europe going.

Tottenham forward Brennan Johnson says players are not oblivious to the fact that they owe fans for their disappointing performance in the last few games. The Lilywhites have lost four of their last games including against rivals Arsenal and Chelsea

They however got back on track against Burnley with a hard-fought 2-1 win and are now likely to secure Europa League football bar any last-minute collapse.

Forward Johnson was relieved to see the team win a game says it was a crazy atmosphere but was happy to come out on the right side.

He told reporters after the game: "All season to be honest there have been games like today where we go 1-0 down and the atmosphere is crazy. Every time the fans can smell it with us we're going to get back on top and they can drive us through the whole game.

"Today they got us through another game and it was so important to win today. Not just for this lap of appreciation but for the season and the way we want to end it here. So a massive thank you to all the fans."

On needing to make up for lost time

The four defeats on the bounce has taken the wind out of Tottenham’s sail and they’ll need Aston Villa to spectacularly collapse in their final two games if they are to miraculously secure Champions League football.

The Welsh forward admits they weren't at their best and owed fans a strong end to the season.

He added: "Obviously the last four games, we're not sugar coating it, we know they were really poor from us personally. We didn't perform and in a few of them we were really bad. We showed a little bit but not for the full 90 so to come off the back of those four games, we owed it to the fans today. It wasn't really about us.

"Obviously we want to perform well and want to win, but coming into the game today we needed three points, just to build something and go into the last two games, tough games, with some kind of momentum."
