The Spurs target will be reluctantly parted with if his asking price is met

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be hopeful of landing Fiorentina star Michael Kayode, but his club are reportedly struggling to decide whether to let the 19-year-old rising full-back leave.

According to Corriere Fiorentino, there is currently huge doubt over whether the should be selling the right-back this summer or see him develop at the club. While on the one hand the 19-year-old homegrown star could see a new generation rise around him, the club is not oblivious to the huge financial benefit that would arise from his sale.

Tottenham are said to be the ‘biggest threat’ in taking Kayode away from the Serie A side and have ‘expressed interest’ in the signing. The north London club’s interest is seemingly still in the early stages and it is reported that they are yet to place an offer for the teenager. La Viola are expected to start receiving bids soon, however,

Spurs have been told they would need to cough up €40 million (£34m) if they wish to prise Kayode away from the Serie A club but the reports also note that there is a chance Fiorentina will ‘turn a deaf ear’ if the north London side do offer a bid. In order to avoid potential disappointment, the London side will therefore need to make sure their offer is convincing enough.

Starting out his youth career at Juventus, Kayode remained with the Old Lady for seven years before heading to Gozzano. The right-back scored two goals and provided two assists in 34 matches to help the club gain promotion to Serie C.

The 19-year-old then joined Fiorentina in 2021, initially being integrated into their youth set-up, but made the step up to the senior side in 2023 and has since gone on to make 23 Serie A appearances, scoring once.

The defender excelled for the Italian U19 side in their 2023 Euros run, scoring the winning goal against Portugal in the final and, according to Breaking the Lines, the ‘wonderkid’ is said to be ‘blessed with immense athleticism and physicality’, showing ‘great intelligence in stepping out of position to intercept or counter press’.
